I’ve been spending a good deal of time in hospitals lately, visiting and accompanying family and friends. Lots of time in waiting rooms to indulge my fascination with the language of health care. Maybe if I’d studied Latin, it wouldn’t be as mystifying.
Nephrology = kidneys. Hematology = blood. We commonly translate “oncology” to “cancer”, but its specific definition is all about tumors. And no matter how many state-of-the-art technologies are covered under the term “nuclear radiology”, in my head, it’s just the X-ray department. And so, I wondered:
What’s the clinical term for a NotMom?
In clinical environments,
- Nullipara is a woman who has not given birth. Nulliparous describes such a woman.
- Nulligravida is a woman who has never been pregnant.
