Seventy per cent of Americans oppose a reversal of Roe v. Wade, the legal case argued before the Supreme Court in 1973 that decriminalized abortion. that’s the highest level of support since pollsters started asking about it in 1989.
It’s been a rocky road every day of the 40 years since. Today, abortion may be legal, but there are just 724 clinics providing the services. A paltry number considering the scope of our fruited plains sea to sea. Depending on where you live, these days it’s all about access.
A video released by Planned Parenthood to mark Roe’s anniversary notes,
“For many people, it’s not a black and white issue,” the video says of abortion. “Pro-choice? Pro-life? The truth is these labels limit the conversation.…When it comes down to it, we just don’t know a woman’s specific situation. We’re not in her shoes.”
