Congrats to Marissa Mayer, the new President & CEO of Yahoo!. If she looks familiar, that’s because she’s been one of Google’s most visible –and female– faces for years. Forbes is already asking if the new job officially deems Ms. Mayer as the “most powerful woman in tech.”
Don’t let the blonde fool you: Ms. Mayer owns smarts like Einstein. Her new deal includes a seat on the Yahoo! Board. (ooh! Katie Holmes-worthy strategizing!) Yahoo! hasn’t been yahooing much for a long time, and they went directly to a woman ready to tackle a big job.
It’s a loss for Google, where she will surely be missed. As Yahoo!’s July 16 2012 announcement notes, Ms. Mayer was the Big G’s 20th employee and its first female engineer. She managed and influenced more than 100 features and products, including image, book and product search, toolbar, iGoogle, and Gmail, “creating much of the ‘look and feel’ of the Google user experience.”
Woman to woman, NotMom to NotMom, wish Marissa luck in her new endeavor. She’s already got the skills.
