On the road to the South Carolina primary, Republican candidates for the White House Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich are out-Tea Partying the other. Attack ads broadcast in that state show each man accusing the other of favoring abortion rights in some manner.
NPR reported the story, including this input from Donna Crane, policy director at NARAL Pro-Choice America:
“The idea that either of these candidates is in any way remotely pro-choice would be laughable, if it weren’t actually so dangerous for women. It really is preposterous.”
Candidate Rick Santorum is energetic in expressing his desire to repeal the 1960’s by ending Americans’ easy access to birth control. Hot monkey love without the risk of pregnancy leads to everything that wrong with the world. We got trouble right here in River City! As Mr. Santorum explained in Oct. 2011:
“Many of the Christian faith have said, well that’s OK, contraception is OK. It’s not OK. It’s a license to do things in a sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be.”
A woman’s uterus continues to be the unacknowledged issue in the Republican tent. The hype says their target is Jobs, but their actions say it’s Uterus. Behavior defines reality, don’cha know.

The reality in America, according to a June 2011 poll by the Public Religion Research Institute, is that a solid majority of Americans — 60% — want abortion to be legal. Almost that many (58%) want someone in their community to provide legal abortions. Perhaps most notable is that the easy labels “pro-choice/pro-life” don’t reflect the complexity of people’s opinions.
Because my uterus, functional or not, is so entrenched in the campaign, I thought I ought to study up.
P.S. Amazon still has a few of the stuffed uteruses (uteri?) shown above on sale if you want your very own.
